Alligator Juniper

The Alligator Juniper tree has grey bark that grows in squares that resemble the alligator scales for which it is commonly named. The wood of this special tree has marvelous character in its grain lines. It is native to the hight mesa regions of New Mexico and Arizona with a few in Texas and California. There are very few stands of these trees. They are not endangered, but they are fairly rare. The trees have been known to live for as long as 2500 years. Enchanted Ridge Designs use only dead trees that are standing on their New Mexico property. the wood is very dry, even in live trees, which makes the wood somewhat brittle and prone to checking. But it offers a faintly aromatic, warmly colored satin smooth wood when it is finished. Running your fingers over the patterns formed by the grain lines seems to transport you in time. For a moment, you may find yourself with the Ancients of this truly enchanted land. Red Feather is proud to offer this fine line of juniper items by Enchanted Ridge Designs.
